The Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole yesterday mandated the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to, in 48 hours, either restore power to disconnected communities in the state or have their Certificate of Occupancy revoked.
Oshiomhole gave the two-day ultimatum when the Managing Director, Mrs Funke Osibodu led other management staff of the BEDC to pay the governor a courtesy visit at the Government House in Benin City.
The governor said the situation where some communities will be cut off the national grid is not only criminal but sabotage to the economic prosperity in the state as it has affected many businesses negatively.
Mrs Funke had earlier explained to the governor that the action of the BEDC was precipitated by the refusal of the affected communities to pay electricity bills, the continuous harassment, and the regular assault of the company staff as well as the destruction of electrical installations and vehicle belonging to the firm.
