Five days after he was detained by the police over alleged receipt of N2.5billion donation, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Mr. Sani Baba-Inna, the Aide De Camp (ADC) to the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, is now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Operatives from the Police Headquarters in Abuja had on Friday arrested the ADC for allegedly using Hajia Buhari’s name to collect huge sums of money from politicians and organisations.
Although sources put the total amount reportedly collected by Baba-Inna on behalf of the President’s wife at N2.5billion, the police only found N1,000 cash in his house while N30,000 was found in his bank account.
All credit entries into the account, according to the police preliminary report, showed that they were from his salaries.
Apparently not satisfied with the police report, the Presidency allegedly directed the DSS to take over the probe.
An online news medium, Premium Times on Monday exposed the news of brewing crisis within the household of President Muhammadu Buhari over the purported donations.
Baba-Inna was accused of receiving huge sums of money in form of donations from politicians and business individuals, as well as groups on Aisha’s behalf, which he kept to himself.
When Hajia Buhari who had asked the police to investigate the issue reportedly got wind of the outcome of police investigation ostensibly exonorating Baba-Inna, she allegedly accused the police of cover up meant to protect one of their own.
Consequently, she directed the DSS to take over the investigation and recover the whole money from her ADC.
It was against this backdrop that the DSS took custody of the CSP on Tuesday for further interrogation.
Yesterday, the DSS spokesman, Mr. Peter Afunanya, confirmed that Baba-Inna had been handed over to the agency by the police.
He was quoted as saying by a national daily in its online report that: “We took custody of the ADC for further investigation, having been transferred to us by the police. It is true that he is with us and we are going to carry out our investigation.”
The spokesperson of Buhari’s wife, Suleiman Haruna, said that he heard about the matter and was trying to get details from the President’s wife, who is currently in New York, the United States.
It was also learnt that that the person behind the petition against the ADC had been invited by the police to provide details on his allegations.
An associate of the embattled police officer said that Baba-Inna strongly denied the allegation, saying he received no donation from anyone on behalf of Mrs Buhari.
One of the sources allegedly said that, “the IG said the matter must be investigated immediately and the house of the ADC was raided.
“Shockingly, investigators only found N1,200 cash in the house. His bank account was also investigated and had only a balance of N30,000 while the transaction records showed that most credits to the account were his salaries and allowances.”
