The Nigerian Army on Thursday maintained that the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, was dead.
The Army through the Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole (the military’s outfit fighting insurgency in the North East zone), Maj-Gen. Lucky Irabor, insisted that the individual originally identified as Shekau has been killed.
Irabor spoke on yesterday when he visited formations under him in Adamawa State.
He said: “I can confirm to you that the original Shekau was killed, the second Shekau was killed, and the man now presenting himself as Shekau, I can also confirm to you that a few days ago, he was wounded. We are yet to confirm whether he is dead or not.”
According to him, the Army does not say anything without facts and assured that troops fighting insurgency in the North East will continue the military operations until the last terrorist is held or killed.
