The Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) has raised the alarm over what it described as its abandonment by the federal government, even as it is faced with bitting financial challenges.
The embattled federation regretted that it is being victimized by the Federal Government which has not released any form of subvention to it for the past five months.
Sources from the glass house revealed to our Reporter yesterday that the federation has been running on an empty purse since the past five months, adding that the last time the federal government released subvention for the administration of football was in December 2015.
The source, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation of things at the NFF noted that membership of the federation is no longer attractive as it used to be in the past as the federation is feeling the strain of the financial crisis, even as he noted that the ugly situation has reduced the insinuations about lack of accountability in the NFF as there is no money to spend now.
“Have you ever wondered why board members don’t attend meetings again in Abuja? It is because there is no money to pick their bills. I can tell you that the Glass House is too dry now. NFF is really broke.
“Did you know the last time we received allocation, I can tell you it was in December last year. Incidentally, the federation used that money to pay arrears of salaries and allowances the federation owes coaches and players. It has nothing to do with the TSA yet nobody is saying anything.
“The federation has no money to pay coaches because we cannot source money from anywhere to meet up such obligations. Even getting our overhead is becoming difficult. As it is now, they are just giving aid in terms of grant for football development.
“Government is no longer funding football because it is practically impossible for the N1.3 billion allocation from the federal government bankroll the programmes for the 11 national teams. Even the money will not be enough for competitions,” the source noted.
